Jacks Point Sleepout
About the Project
The Jacks Point Sleepout is a compact addition to an existing Jacks Point property, providing flexible accommodation for a growing family; guest bedroom, second bedroom, den, and the option for a home office, all within 66m².
The ideal position for the new structure fell within a no-build area, requiring a resource consent application and careful management of form and placement to achieve a successful outcome. The location was fixed by the constraints of the existing site; the design had to work within them.
The roof form falls across two pitches, following the angle of the hillside behind. The result is a structure that reads as part of the landscape rather than sitting in front of it. The building is also set down into the slope, reducing its visible height and keeping it low and subservient to the landscape.
The palette is restrained — vertical cedar weatherboards in a light oak stain, metal tray roofing in Flaxpod, and dark powder-coated joinery. Simple, durable, and suited to the Jacks Point setting.
Currently in for building consent.
