Lennox Head House, NSW
About the Project
Following an earlier project together in Queenstown, this was a second commission for a returning client—this time in Lennox Head on Australia’s east coast. The brief was to create a contemporary family home shaped by site, climate, and lifestyle, rather than a fixed aesthetic.
Set on an elevated site with sweeping ocean views, the design lifts the primary living spaces to the upper level to maximise outlook and privacy. A large, overhanging roof provides protection from sun and subtropical rain, creating sheltered outdoor areas while helping to control heat gain within.
The architecture is expressed through a simple, robust form, with materials selected for durability and low maintenance in a coastal environment. Bagged and painted brick provides texture and resilience, while timber screens and planting soften the building’s edge and offer privacy and sun control.
The result is a composed, climate-responsive home that balances openness with protection, designed to perform well in its environment while remaining comfortable and easy to live in.
